A daunting task

October 21, 2007

Have you  noticed how tough it is to study after a long gap? To study when you work? To study because you need to pass something you really don’t believe in. It’s altogether another topic as to why I’m doing this if I don’t want to. But for some questions, there are no direct answers. Atleast not right now.

Attention span for some reason refuses to go beyond 10 mins at a stretch. Everything but concentrating on the book comes to your mind.

1. You suddenly remember the exact timings of your favourite TV show and realise you can maybe catch an episode of it in some time (all these days of course being blissfully unaware of it).

2. Hunger pangs hit you more often. You especially think of restaurants you’ve never been to. This in particular never strikes when you’re in the car, starved, and you want to go to a new place. How much ever you think of it, the name of the place never comes to mind and you end up going to the same old tried-and-tested-and-found-satisfactory-restaurant.

3. You remember all the pending calls you had to make and feel that if you don’t do them now, you’d seriously jeopardise the relationship with those people. A call to a cousin to inquire about his new car purchase. A call to a friend who’s abroad to ask her to send pictures of the fall colours.

4. You think of the interesting fwds you’ve received over email and haven’t read them. Maybe you’ve missed something very important.

5. Oh and what about the deal you were on the look out for…a good time to renew the search for it. Do some reading up online about it. Discuss with others about how sound or not the buy would be.

6. Sleep

7. Sleep

8. Sleep

In short, everything comes to your mind (including writing this way past midnight!) except the book in front of you. A daunting task, 1200 pages of information to be absorbed in a day, ‘coz the next day, there are 2 more 500-odd pages books to be read and understood. <Sigh> What a weekend. There’s no way I can finish all this in 2 days. What do they think I am? To make matters worse, this is when you hear about your friends going out of town, or throwing a party, or doing something interesting (anything except being forced to study for something is interesting to me now!).

Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do, eh?

and i can also say for sure all of us have been there and it true not just for ppl studying after a long gap !! trust me on that one.. you’d remember all the poems you always felt strongly about and the masterpieces you wanted to paint but never got the inspiration .. all of it will come to you in flash and they will just seem like the most appropriate thing to do at that time !!!!
